New food spots in Orlando call for me to try it out asap, this week's new joint is named Mamak located right in the hear of Orlando's Viet Town off Mills50. This is definitely a nice change of style in comparison to the abundance of Vietnamese restaurant and endless bowls of pho.
They state that their cooking is Asian street food style, which can be seen with their many options of tapas, which my mom took took advantage of. Pictured above is their Korean Mee which my dad and sister both ordered. My sister and I split both of our orders and when I tried this, it was some of the best ramen I have tasted in Orlando. It was spicy and offered lots of protein such as chicken, shrimp, fish balls, and a hard boiled egg. The only downside to this dish is that it reminded my entire family of this ramen we buy in stores and cook ourselves but with much more meat included.
My order was their Malaysian Coconut Curry with beef, of all the curry I've eaten at restaurants this one must tie with the beef curry I like to get at Sapporo Ramen. The only difference I could really taste was the one offered here at Mamak is significantly more spicy. I truly did enjoy the dish but I feel like the heat from the spices affected me being able to fully enjoy the dish. The one Sapporo offers is much more savory and more enjoyable. I had to continuously take sips of my drink to calm down my tastebuds.
I would definitely recommend anyone in the area and wanting to try something other than pho to check this place out, but I do feel that this food can be easily recreated with enough time or found in other restaurants. Till next time!
